This genre features a plot being based around a historical event or person. Usually mis en scene is a big part to play, as makeup and costume show the period of the film.The props that are used also show the period that the film is set and give an overall effect to the scenes. If a historical film is following a persons life then different periods of time have to be shown, for example a range of actors/actresses have to be used to show how they have grown and changed also they all must look similar and have a similar look to the person they are supposed to be played by. Also they have to have accurate perceptions of the time it is set in as the audience would most likely know of the event or person if they were going seeing the film. High or low key lighting could be used depending on the era and the content of the film. At different points of the film, different lighting would be used.
Crime/mystery
This genre features a plot that is based around an act of crime, this could be a group of people or just one. Cinematography is a major part of this genre as the type of shot creates the tension and drama of a scene, the movement of the camera is important as you need to make sure that it creates the right mood for the film. This genre would be hard for mis en scene.
Romance
This genre features a love story usually between a man and women. Sometimes they can use several actors and actresses showing a long period of time, and sometimes they just have a short period of time and only have one actress and actor protraying the main characters. The setting may be important in this genre as parks and beautiful places are usually used to set the mood of the film. High key lighting would most likely be used, to show the happiness of the actor and actress.
Horror
In this genre sound is a major feature as it creates the mood o the film, Low key lighting would be used and a gray scale or blue tinge to create the tension. Mis en scene is an essential part.
